Jakob was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, but grew up in Reykjavik and Akureyri, Iceland. He studied at the Reykjavík College of Music 1963-1968, but then proceeded to study at the University of Iceland 1975-1977, in Dick Grove 1977-1979 and in the UCLA 1980. He is a founding member of the multi media rock group "Studmenn" and produced the box office record-breaking Studmenn rock musical "On Top" in 1982. He also produced the Icelandic/American filmproduction "Nickel Mountain" in 1983. He is also the producer of several documentaries for television. Jakob Magnússon is an active musician with numerous records with the "Studmenn" and a number of solo LP's, and he has written music for the theatre and for the screen. Jakob Magnússon was appointed Cultural Attaché of the Icelandic Embassy in London 1991-1995. He founded the Green Army in 1999, an initiative for the embellishment of Iceland. At present he is owner of the advertisement company "Bankastraeti" and works also for "Reykjavik Records".
